The sector scorecard
Sorted by the last completed week. Rank change compares the two most recent completed weeks. A positive relative return means the sector ETF outperformed SPY. Company leaders beneath each sector are ranked by their own adjusted return over the completed week, regardless of the values toggle.
Where leadership is changing
Compare previous-month relative performance with week-to-date relative performance. Both are measured against SPY. These groups describe performance, not trade recommendations.
How to use this report
Sunday: review the completed week, rank changes and the recovering groups to choose areas for research. Each morning: check the latest completed session for changes. Month-end: compare the new monthly snapshot with prior months.
Use SPX Calendar for scheduled event risk, this report for sector context, and the existing stock scanners for individual setups. Sector leadership alone does not establish an entry, stop or expected return.
Sources, period definitions & limitations
Coverage: XLC communication services; XLY consumer discretionary; XLP consumer staples; XLE energy; XLF financials; XLV healthcare; XLI industrials; XLB materials; XLRE real estate; XLK technology; XLU utilities. Benchmark: SPY. ETF provider and sector mapping.
Prices: Alpaca consolidated SIP daily bars, adjusted for splits and distributions. Return = ending adjusted close divided by starting adjusted close, minus one. This is an adjusted-close return calculation, not a fund NAV return or a licensed sector-index total-return series. ETF weights, expenses, market prices and provider adjustment methods can produce differences from official S&P sector returns.
Periods: week-to-date starts at the previous calendar week's final trading close. The last completed week is the latest Monday-to-Sunday period whose final scheduled trading session has closed; a Friday holiday is handled using the preceding session. Month-to-date starts at the previous month's final trading close. Previous month is the full calendar month before the report date. On a completed Friday, week-to-date and last completed week can be identical.
Rotation rules: each relative return must exceed +0.25 percentage points to count as positive, or fall below −0.25 points to count as negative. Established leaders are positive in both periods; recovering groups are negative previously and positive this week; fading leaders are positive previously and negative this week; persistent laggards are negative in both. Other combinations are mixed. These descriptive thresholds are fixed rules, not validated trading signals.
Company leaders: the three highest completed-week adjusted returns among stock holdings in each sector ETF, using State Street daily holdings and Alpaca SIP prices. Holdings dates and stock counts are shown for each sector. Cash and futures are excluded. Multiple share classes with the same issuer identifier count once, using the best-performing class; ties are broken by ticker. All stock holdings require valid starting and ending prices. These are performance rankings, not buy signals, and the top three can all have negative returns. Current holdings can differ from membership during the measured week. Earlier reports without a captured company ranking display no names.
History: earlier reports labeled reconstructed use today's available adjusted price history. They were not saved at those historical dates and can change after vendor corrections or corporate-action adjustments. Reports labeled archived preserve the first successfully published end-of-week or month-end snapshot captured by this system. Archiving begins with this page's launch; earlier history is not presented as point-in-time evidence.
Refresh: scheduled each trading evening, at 22:35 and 01:35 UTC, with the second run checking for delayed prices. Only completed sessions at least 90 minutes after the close are used. All 12 funds must have matching session coverage; a missing or invalid series blocks publication and preserves the prior report. A freshness warning appears when the next expected update is overdue.
This first version does not include constituent breadth, industry subgroups, earnings expectations or individual-stock entry signals. Relative outperformance can occur while a sector is falling. Past performance does not establish future returns.
